Bond Issue
The 15-year bond issue, will require a mill levy estimated at 6.27 mills—the equivalent of added taxes of $4.51 per month on a $75,000 home. This levy is well below the average of the nearly 200 school districts that have approved bonds to improve their Kansas schools.

The Hugoton Public School bond issue passed on November 4 by a 71% margin.
“We are excited for the students of Hugoton, which is what this bond issue is really about,” said Roger James, Board of Education President. “The Board of Education is pleased the community voted to provide adequate Early Childhood services, a new Middle School, and a High School expansion. Having FEMA approved tornado shelters and safe entrances to all our schools will be a great addition as well.” |

Construction Update: April 15, 2010 The geothermal well field at the new middle school is wrapping up their work this month by tying in the well field and connecting it to the school. In less than a month, the MS practice FB field soil will be getting re-graded and new grass seed planted. We hope to have it green and ready for FB practice and PE classes in August.
The subcontractor K-2 has been an excellent outfit to work with. A different and equally capable sub-contractor will be drilling the geothermal field at the ECDC. Fire and Ice out of Oklahoma won the contract and is doing both the ECC and the Pioneer Manor fields.
The 153 holes, around 300 ft deep each are now all connected and tied into these main lines going to the new school. The new road laid this past summer already had the bore tubes ready to insert these geo lines to go under the road; thus, no trenching of the road was necessary. These permanent lines are all the way below the frost line, buried up to 6 ft deep and should never need to be dug up. |
