HMS Teacher's Checking for Understanding.

HMS teachers are being challenged to identify and use checks for understanding from the book, "Check For Understanding - 65 Classroom Ready Tactics.

Checking for understanding is an important step in the teaching and learning process. Checking for understanding is part of a formative assessment system in which teachers identify learning goals, provide students feedback, and then plan instruction based on students' errors and misconceptions.  Checking for Understanding is the teacher continually verifying that students are learning what is being taught, while it is being taught.  The picture shows one such check for understanding in Mrs. Gold's 7th grade English class.  Mrs. Gold's students are using a dice roll questioning technique.  In Mr. Terrill's art classes, he is using a check for understanding strategy with "Exit Tickets".  Students have to answer a content related question before they can leave the room.
