This Week…. Mar 22nd - Mar 28th
It’s a busy week ahead at HHS! We’ll have State Testing taking place throughout the week, along with several student activities, meetings, and events happening both in and out of the building. There will also be a few early dismissals for students traveling to competitions and activities.
Our baseball and softball teams will kick off their seasons at home, we have cheerleader tryouts, and several weekend activities including the FFA Labor Auction, Regional Music Festival, and the State Powerlifting Meet.
HHS Art students
Several students will be traveling to Montezuma on Wednesday to attend the Western Kansas Scholastic Art Awards Ceremony, where their outstanding artwork will be recognized at the regional level. This will be a great opportunity to celebrate their creativity and accomplishments.
Later in the week, HHS Art Club members will take their annual trip to Wichita, where they will visit art centers and galleries, explore different artistic spaces, and take part in some fun activities together. This trip serves as a celebration of the hard work and creativity our Art Club students have shown throughout the year.
Congratulations to our talented artists, and thank you to everyone helping make these opportunities possible for our students!
Hugoton art students are continuing to earn recognition for their incredible talent!
Students Aleah Farnum (11th grader) and Conlee Eisenhour (8th grader) recently had their artwork selected for the Kansas Youth Art Month Exhibit, hosted by the Kansas Art Education Association at the Topeka & Shawnee County Public Library. The exhibit celebrates student artwork from across the state and is on display throughout the month of March. Aleah’s painting and Conlee’s digital art design were both chosen to represent Hugoton in this statewide showcase.
Painting by Aleah Farnum displayed at the State of Kansas Youth Art Month Display at the Shawnee County Public Library in Topeka during the month of March.
Digital art design by Conlee Eisenhour, displayed at the State of Kansas Youth Art Month Display at the Shawnee County Public Library in Topeka during the month of March.
“Aleah and Conlee are two of many exceptional students in our Hugoton USD 210 art department. Their talents have been growing each year, and these works were selected based on such qualities for this exhibit. They are very gifted in what they do, and I’m always excited for what they will produce each year. I’m proud to have these two students represented in a state exhibition in honor of their work,” said Mr. Terrill.
In addition, Aleah Farnum earned further recognition at the national level. Her artwork, “No Matter How Hard I Scrub,” was accepted into Missouri State University’s Virtual Juried Exhibition for High School Art and Design Students, where it also received an Honorable Mention. The exhibition featured nearly 728 submissions from students across 10 states, with only 148 pieces selected for display or awards.
These accomplishments highlight the dedication and creativity of our HHS art students. Congratulations to Aleah and Conlee for representing Hugoton so well, and thank you to Mr. Terrill for continuing to support and inspire our talented artists!
Get ready, Hugoton! The FFA Labor Auction is almost here!
Join us Saturday, March 28th at 6:00 PM at the Hugoton Theater for an evening full of excitement, community spirit, and friendly competition!
This is your chance to bid on our amazing FFA members as they offer their time and talents to help you out. Once “purchased,” each student will meet with the buyer within a set time frame to complete their labor commitment. Whether it’s yard work, farm help, or other tasks, these students are ready to lend a hand!
But that’s not all, we’re also hosting a raffle auction! Purchase tickets and you could win one of the many incredible baskets and items on the floor. If your ticket is pulled, the item is yours!
It’s a fun, lively event for the whole community, and a great way to support our Hugoton FFA students as they develop leadership skills, teamwork, and hands on experience. Don’t miss out on a chance to have some fun, snag a great deal, and give back to our future leaders!
Mark your calendars and come be part of the excitement!
