Mr. Kent’s Updates
As we enter the final stretch of the school year, our focus remains on keeping students engaged, supported, and connected. Strong partnerships between school, families, and the community are essential during this time, and we appreciate your continued support in helping students finish the year in a positive and meaningful way.
As classrooms work to keep learning active and engaging, there are several ways families and community members can help reinforce that momentum at home and beyond:
Ask your student about what they are learning and encourage them to share
Support consistent attendance and routines, which are especially important as the year winds down
Encourage your student to stay organized and complete assignments on time, even as schedules feel busier
Help your student stay positive by recognizing effort and growth, not just final grades
Provide space at home for reflection, such as talking about what they learned or what they enjoyed most that day
Encourage healthy balance, making sure students are getting enough rest, limiting distractions, and staying focused on school responsibilities
Stay connected with teachers and the school if questions or concerns come up
Celebrating accomplishments, whether through school events, recognition moments, or conversations at home
These simple actions make a big difference in helping students stay motivated and finish the year strong.
We are grateful for the support of our families and community. Working together, we can ensure students not only complete the school year successfully but also carry forward confidence, pride, and positive memories of their learning experience.

Home Track Meet
We’re looking forward to a great Home Track Meet this Friday! Coach Korf is finalizing the schedule for staff assignments, which will be shared on Monday. Thank you in advance for your support in making this a successful event for our students. Be sure to come prepared with your sun hats, sunscreen, and possibly even a raincoat might all come in handy. Let’s bring great energy and make it a fantastic day!
Work-Based Learning (WBL)
Mr. Davis will share a presentation on our Work-Based Learning (WBL) program. Students will learn what WBL is, how to apply, and the criteria for acceptance. This is a great opportunity for our students to start thinking about their future pathways and if they are not interested in shadowing anyone in their pathway maybe they should think about changing pathways!
Final Exam Exemption Requirements.
Maintain A or B average.
No more than 4 absences per hour, per semester.
No disciplinary infractions - Detention, ISS, OSS (Warning is just a warning not a disciplinary action) Per the handbook the first offence for device and dress code violations are classified as warnings which do not count as disciplinary action. A disciplinary action is detention, ISS, and OSS.

It is up to our students to show up on time for their finals. If they do not show up for class they will receive a 0% on their finals. Per our handbook if students miss half of class they are counted as absent for academics not activities. So if they miss more than half the class they will also receive a 0%.
Seminar, if a student has all their IPS finished then they do not need to come for that hour for finals UNLESS they need to come in for attendance issues, low grades, or discipline issues. Seminar teachers will have something for students to do during this time.
Final cut off for final exemption grades will be Tuesday, May 5th for Seniors and Tuesday, May 12th for underclassmen. Giving us enough time to calculate and share who is exempt and who is not. (Does not mean it will be a students last grade but this is the cut off for exemptions because we need time to run reports.)
If a student is exempt from all their finals this is what is required of them.
Their last day of school is Friday, May 8th for seniors and Friday, May 15th for underclassmen. All seniors must show up on May 13th for the Senior Walkthrough and checkout process if they took finals.
Seniors who finish on Friday May 8th can start checking out with all their seminar teachers, IT, and Front Office (You will check out with Mrs. Craig on Senior Walkthrough). Underclassmen who finish on May 15th can start the checkout process with all their seminar teachers, IT, Front Office, and Mrs. Craig.
If you attend College on Campus your last day for those classes will be at the earliest May 8th for Seniors and May 15th for underclassmen but it may be later depending on the class. Students must finish college finals and check with your teachers because everyone is a little different.
If you attend college or Vo Tech off campus you are finished with those classes when the classes are finished and do not need to show up to school for those hours.
For Worked Based Learning students should continue to build relationships with the community and the partners they are working with. If they will be missing any time they need to notify Mr. Davis and community members they are partnered with.
If a student is exempt from only a couple of hours or if they are not exempt from any classes this is what is required of them.
They must report to all hours they are not exempt in and the responsibility is on them. The responsibility is on the student to show up on time to their classes.
For Seniors you must show up on May 13th for Senior Walkthrough and for underclassmen you must show up on May 20th to go through the checkout process.
If you are planning to leave early, this is what is required.
If a student is leaving early the student and parent/guardian must notify the principal and their teachers to schedule their final exams early. If they do not, they will receive zeros on their exams and it will affect their grade. You must let us know 2 weeks in advance!
For College classes and Votech courses they need to talk to their teachers and work out scheduling with them.
For Worked Based Learning students they must notify Mr. Davis and community members they are partnered with.
Looking Ahead…
Sports Physical Clinics
We’re excited to share our upcoming Sports Physical Clinics for the 2026–2027 school year! This is a fantastic opportunity for our students and families to get ahead, stay prepared, and support our athletic programs all at the same time.
We strongly encourage everyone to take advantage of this early opportunity. Students can complete their required physicals in a convenient setting, at a discounted price, and avoid the last minute rush before the season begins. Even better, half of the cost of each physical will be donated right back to our athletic department, directly supporting our student-athletes and programs.
This is truly a win-win for our students, families, and school community. We would love your help in spreading the word and encouraging participation so we can make this event a great success!
Thank you for your continued support of our students and activities. We’re looking forward to an amazing year ahead!
Dance Recital
We are incredibly excited to invite you to Hugoton High School’s very first Dance Recital, a milestone moment for our school and community!
Under the direction of Mrs. Grubb, our students have worked hard all year to learn, grow, and express themselves through dance. This recital is a celebration of their dedication, creativity, and courage to try something new. It’s more than just a performance. It’s the beginning of something special at Hugoton High School.
We would love to see our community come out and support these students as they take the stage for this historic first event. Your encouragement will help this program continue to grow and thrive, opening the door for even more opportunities for our students in the future.
Come be part of the start of something exciting. Let’s pack the house and show our dancers how proud we are!
Quote for the Week!
"Your speed doesn't matter. Forward is forward."
