Mr. Kent’s Updates
As we head into the final week with our seniors before finals, our focus shifts to helping them finish strong and finish well. This is a critical time where structure, clarity, and relationships make the biggest difference. Our students (especially seniors) are balancing excitement, stress, and distraction, and they need us to provide consistency while also recognizing the significance of this moment in their lives. This week, prioritize clear expectations for finals and final assignments so students know exactly what is due, when it’s due, and what success looks like. Be intentional with check-ins, as even a quick conversation can help keep students on track and feeling supported as they prepare for their next steps. Maintain structured and purposeful class time to maximize productivity and minimize off-task behavior, while continuing to provide opportunities for review and reinforcement of the most essential skills and concepts. It is equally important to hold students accountable while offering the support they need to meet expectations. Finally, take time to recognize effort, growth, and accomplishments, especially for our seniors as they prepare to leave us. The way we show up during this stretch helps ensure students not only succeed academically but also leave with a strong, positive final impression of their time here.

This Week…. Apr 26th - May 2nd
Teacher Appreciation week!!!
This week, we take time to recognize and celebrate the incredible educators who make a difference in the lives of our students every single day.
Thank you for the time, energy, and heart you pour into your classrooms. Thank you for showing up. Day in and day out with patience, passion, and a commitment to helping every student succeed.
Your impact goes far beyond lessons and assignments. Even if students never say a word, know you build relationships, inspire confidence, and create a place where students feel seen, supported, and valued.
Because of you, students grow, not just academically, but as individuals prepared for the future.
Your work matters.
Your dedication matters.
You matter.
Thank you for everything you do for our students, our school, and our community.
SENIORS LIVE
Be sure to tune in to 102.7 FM this week to hear from some of our amazing Hugoton High School seniors as they share their experiences and reflect on their time at HHS!
Marco Amador, Miguel Hernandez, Abdiel Cabezas, Daniella Alfaro, Kadence Hernandez, and Olivia Salmans will be featured Wednesday at 5:30 PM with Joe Denoyer.
We’re incredibly proud of our seniors, don’t miss this chance to hear directly from them and celebrate all they’ve accomplished. Be sure to tune in!
HHS/HMS Band/Vocal Concert
This is it! The final band and choir concert of the year, and everything points to this one being something special!
Our students are locked in, prepared, and ready to put on an incredible performance you won’t want to miss. The energy, the talent, and the passion they’ve built all year are about to come together on one stage for a truly memorable night.
It also gives our community a chance to celebrate and say goodbye to Mr. Harding, who has made a lasting impact on our students and programs as he now chases his dream of working for Disney. What an exciting next chapter!
Let’s show up, bring the energy, and pack the house as we celebrate our students and send Mr. Harding off in a big way. This is going to be a night to remember!
Sports Physical Clinics
We’re excited to remind everyone that our Sports Physical Clinics for the 2026–2027 school year are happening this week! High School students will have their opportunity on Monday, and Middle School students on Tuesday.
This is a great chance for students and families to get ahead, stay prepared, and support our athletic programs at the same time. Students can complete their required physicals in a convenient setting, at a discounted cost, and avoid the last-minute rush before the season begins.
Even better, half of the cost of each physical is donated back to our athletic department, directly supporting our student-athletes and programs.
This is truly a win-win for our students, families, and school community. We appreciate your help in spreading the word and encouraging participation to make this event a success.
Thank you for your continued support—we’re looking forward to a great week and an outstanding year ahead!
Dance Recital
We’re excited to invite you to Hugoton High School’s Dance Recital happening this Wednesday!
Under the direction of Mrs. Grubb, our students have worked hard all year to grow and express themselves through dance. This performance is a celebration of their dedication and a special milestone for our school.
We would love for our community to come out and support these students as they take the stage. Let’s pack the house and show our dancers how proud we are!

Per our handbook if students miss half of class they are counted as absent for academics not activities. So if they miss more than half the class they will also receive a 0%.
Seminar, if a student has all their IPS finished then they do not need to come for that hour for finals UNLESS they need to come in for attendance issues, low grades, or discipline issues. Seminar teachers will have something for students to do during this time.
Final cut off for final exemption grades will be Tuesday, May 5th for Seniors and Tuesday, May 12th for underclassmen. Giving us enough time to calculate and share who is exempt and who is not. (Does not mean it will be a student's last grade but this is the cut off for exemptions because we need time to run reports.)
If a student is exempt from all their finals this is what is required of them.
Their last day of school is Friday, May 8th for seniors and Friday, May 15th for underclassmen. All seniors must show up on May 13th for the Senior Walkthrough and checkout process if they took finals.
Seniors who finish on Friday May 8th can start checking out with all their seminar teachers, IT, and Front Office (You will check out with Mrs. Craig on Senior Walkthrough). Underclassmen who finish on May 15th can start the checkout process with all their seminar teachers, IT, Front Office, and Mrs. Craig.
If you attend College on Campus your last day for those classes will be at the earliest May 8th for Seniors and May 15th for underclassmen but it may be later depending on the class. Students must finish college finals and check with your teachers because everyone is a little different.
If you attend college or Vo Tech off campus you are finished with those classes when the classes are finished and do not need to show up to school for those hours.
For Work Based Learning students should continue to build relationships with the community and the partners they are working with. If they will be missing any time they need to notify Mr. Davis and community members they are partnered with.
If a student is exempt from only a couple of hours or if they are not exempt from any classes this is what is required of them.
They must report to all hours they are not exempt in and the responsibility is on them. The responsibility is on the student to show up on time to their classes.
For Seniors you must show up on May 13th for Senior Walkthrough and for underclassmen you must show up on May 20th to go through the checkout process.
If you are planning to leave early, this is what is required.
If a student is leaving early the student and parent/guardian must notify the principal and their teachers to schedule their final exams early. If they do not, they will receive zeros on their exams and it will affect their grade. You must let us know 2 weeks in advance!
For College classes and Vo Tech courses they need to talk to their teachers and work out scheduling with them.
For Work Based Learning students they must notify Mr. Davis and community members they are partnered with.
Checkout Process
All students need to have all fees paid, all library books checked in, and iPad fully charged and cleaned for the checkout process!
