Mr. Kent’s Updates
It’s hard to believe our first week is already in the books! It has been great having our students back in the building, reconnecting with familiar faces, welcoming new ones, and seeing the energy return to HHS.
As we head into our first full week, students will begin MAP assessments in Math and ELA. These assessments give us a starting point and help our teachers better understand how we can support each student’s growth throughout the year. We encourage families to remind students to simply take their time and give their best effort.
We are excited about the start we’ve had and look forward to continuing to build strong relationships, set high expectations, and celebrate all the great things happening at HHS.
It’s going to be a great year to be an Eagle!

This Week…. Aug 23rd - 29th
One lunch time for all!
One of our changes this year is moving to one lunch period for all HHS students, and so far, it has been a great addition!
You can definitely hear the excitement in the cafeteria. Students have shared that they enjoy being able to eat with all of their friends and have some much needed downtime during the school day. Each day, the lunch line is getting quicker and more efficient, giving students plenty of time to eat, visit, and recharge before heading back to class.
Is it a little loud? Absolutely! But it’s the good kind of loud, students laughing, talking, and enjoying time together.
So far, one lunch has been a great experience and a positive addition to HHS!
Activity Dismissal Times
As our fall activities get underway, students will need to leave school early for competitions and events. While our intercom system is temporarily down, teachers will receive daily dismissal times and student lists so we can help make sure everyone gets where they need to be.
We appreciate everyone’s patience and flexibility while our intercom system is being repaired!
Phones & SCCC Classes
Like every new school year, we are working through a few beginning-of-the-year technology bumps! Our staff is working hard to resolve phone issues with our new system and making sure our students are able to access their SCCC classes.
We appreciate the patience and understanding of our students, families, and staff as we get everything fully operational.
MAP Testing
Next week, HHS students will begin MAP testing in Math and ELA. MAP assessments help us understand where each student is academically and provide valuable information that teachers can use to support student growth throughout the year.
We encourage families to help us by reminding students to take their time and give their best effort. A good night’s sleep, a positive attitude, and simply doing their best can make a difference!
We are excited to see where our students are starting and, even more importantly, how much they grow throughout the year!
Next week Aug 30th - Sept 5th
This week our fall activities officially kick into gear! We will have Cross Country in Meade, Volleyball in Liberal and Ulysses, JV Football in Perryton, Texas, and Golf and Varsity Football right here at home!
As our students begin traveling and missing class for activities, please encourage them to plan ahead and get their work completed before they leave. Students know their schedules in advance, so this is a great opportunity for us to reinforce responsibility, communication, and staying on top of their academics.
It’s going to be a busy and exciting week at HHS. Let’s get out and support our Eagles!
Quote for the Week!
"Don't rush your time away. Savor each moment along the journey."
