Mr. Kent’s Updates
We are committed to creating classrooms where learning begins at the bell and remains meaningful through dismissal. Recently, a student who transferred to HHS shared a wonderful compliment about our school. He described how kind and welcoming our teachers and staff have been, noting that they regularly greet him, check in with him, and help him feel like he belongs. He also shared that he feels he is truly learning here. Even classes he was not initially excited about have become interesting because his teachers make learning enjoyable and engaging. His words reflect the kindness, creativity, and commitment our staff members bring to school each day. We are incredibly proud of their hard work and the meaningful difference they continue to make in the lives of our students.
This Week…. Sept 6th - 12th
Our activities and athletic seasons are kicking off to a great start! We are proud of the dedication our students are demonstrating as they represent HHS. Our student-athletes are pushing themselves, giving their best effort, and learning valuable lessons about teamwork, perseverance, and commitment. We are equally excited to see students becoming involved in the many clubs, organizations, and activities available at HHS. Thank you to our coaches, sponsors, families, and community members for encouraging and supporting our students!
Musical Auditions
Auditions for the HHS musical, Bye Bye Birdie, are coming up! We are excited for another outstanding production led by Sarah Kitske and Katie Jimenez. This year’s performance will also give us the opportunity to showcase the beautiful new curtains in our auditorium.
Audition Dates and Times
Tuesday, September 8, at 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
Thursday, September 10, at 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
Location: HHS Choir Room
Students should be prepared to sing either “Happy Birthday” or “My Country, ’Tis of Thee” and read selected scenes from the musical. We encourage interested students to audition and become part of what promises to be another memorable HHS production!
Supporting Growth Through Effective Feedback
At HHS, we believe effective feedback is one of the most valuable tools for helping students grow, understand expectations, and take ownership of their learning. Strong feedback is given regularly and is specific, timely, relevant, and constructive. Families can support this work at home by recognizing a specific effort or improvement, asking students to reflect on their progress, and helping them identify one manageable next step. For example, instead of saying, “You need to do better in math,” try, “I noticed you completed all your assignments this week. Let’s review the problems you missed and decide what question you can ask your teacher tomorrow.” When families and teachers work together to provide positive, consistent feedback and encourage students to revise, retry, and learn from mistakes. We build confidence, strengthen understanding, and help every student continue moving forward.
VU Scholarships Assembly
One of this week’s biggest opportunities for our seniors will be the VU Scholarships Assembly. We introduced this program last year, and it was wonderful to see students’ reactions as they discovered the scholarships they could potentially receive. We are holding the assembly earlier this year, giving seniors more time to explore their options, complete applications, and thoughtfully consider which college, university, or post-secondary pathway may be the best fit for them.
The VU Scholarships provisional program matches students’ academic accomplishments with possible scholarship offers from participating colleges, universities, and other post-secondary institutions. This gives students an opportunity to see what financial assistance may be available after graduation. Participation does not obligate a student to apply to or attend any institution; it simply provides helpful information and allows each student to decide which opportunities to pursue.
It is an exciting time at HHS, and we are proud of the effort, growth, and enthusiasm our students are demonstrating in the classroom, through activities, and in athletic competition. Thank you to our families and community for continuing to support our students and staff!
