Mr. Kent’s Updates

At HHS, we are focusing on intentionally noticing and recognizing the positive behaviors, effort, and progress we want students to continue. Correcting poor choices and maintaining high expectations will always be important, but encouragement can be even more powerful when students clearly understand what they are doing well.

Families can support this effort at home by replacing general praise such as “Good job” with specific recognition: “I noticed you started your homework without being reminded,” “You kept working even when that assignment was difficult,” or “I appreciate how you helped someone today.” These simple statements show students exactly which habits are helping them succeed and encourage them to repeat those choices.

This does not mean ignoring mistakes or lowering expectations. It means balancing correction with encouragement so students know that the adults in their lives notice their growth, not only their struggles. We invite our families and community members to join us by asking: What positive behavior or effort do I want to see repeated, and have I taken the time to recognize it? Who needs to hear something encouraging from me today?

This Week…

Students of the Week!

Please take a moment to congratulate these outstanding students when you see them and let them know how much we appreciate the kindness, positivity, and school spirit they bring to our community and school each day!

Cameron Rosas – Cameron consistently demonstrates Eagle pride by showing up to support our students and teams. At event after event, Cameron can be found in attendance, quietly encouraging his classmates and representing HHS in a positive way. He may not always be the loudest person in the crowd, but his dependable presence speaks volumes. His support reminds us that school spirit is not only about being heard, it is also about showing up for others.

Aaron Fabela – Aaron makes HHS a more welcoming place through his kindness and respect for others. He regularly goes out of his way to greet students and staff, and he is unfailingly polite in his interactions. His thoughtful attitude and friendly presence help people feel noticed and valued. Aaron is an excellent example of how simple acts of courtesy can positively influence an entire school community.

Briley Jorde – Briley has a wonderful ability to notice when someone may be having a difficult day. She takes the time to check in on others, offers encouragement, and makes sure they know someone cares. She does all of this with a genuine smile and a positive spirit. Briley’s compassion and awareness of others make a meaningful difference in the lives of those around her.

Toni Moore – Toni brings positivity, focus, and kindness into the classroom each day. She works hard, remains focused on her responsibilities, and is always willing to help those around her. Her encouraging personality and cheerful attitude make everyone’s day a little brighter. Toni is a dependable student and a wonderful example of how hard work and kindness can go hand in hand.

No Child Left Inside

We are excited for our upcoming No Child Left Inside day! One of the most energetic and enjoyable days of the year! This special event gives students and staff an opportunity to step outside the traditional classroom, enjoy the outdoors, participate in activities, and strengthen relationships across our school community. Beyond having fun, the day encourages students to be active, work together, build positive connections, and create lasting memories with their classmates and teachers. Staff members will be outside supervising and participating throughout the event. Families are encouraged to help students prepare by dressing appropriately for the weather, wearing comfortable clothing and shoes, bringing water, and supplying sunscreen for their students if needed. We are looking forward to a fun and meaningful day together!

Coming up…

Postseason excitement is here! Regionals, Sub-State, and State competitions are quickly approaching for several of our activities. Our students have invested countless hours of hard work, preparation, and dedication, and we would love to see our families and community come out, cheer them on, and show their Eagle pride!

Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held Tuesday, October 20, from 4:00–8:00 p.m. and Thursday, October 22, from 8:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m. Families should schedule a conference time with their student’s seminar teacher. This is a valuable opportunity to celebrate progress, discuss any concerns, and work together to support student success.

Picture Retake Day is Wednesday, October 21. Students who need their picture retaken should listen for the announcement that morning. Families interested in purchasing school pictures may find ordering information at

It will be a busy and exciting week at HHS, and we look forward to seeing our families and community supporting our students!

Quote for the Week!

“When we long for a life without difficulties, let us remember that oak trees grow stronger in high winds and diamonds are made under pressure.”
